The SCImago Research Group just released Scimago Institutions Rankings World Report 2010, the second edition of its Ranking of Worldwide Research Institutions. SIR 2010 World Report is the world's broadest coverage ranking showing research outcomes for 2,833 institutions.

As new analytic features, this year's edition introduces Research Excellence Labels and World/Regional/Country Output Ranks. Every institution has been labeled according to the scientific impact its output has over the scientific community into 3 categories: Green, Yellow and Red. Also, although the ranking tables continue to be sorted by world output rank, the current release shows regional and national ranks for all the institutions.

As in previous years the report groups together institutions by countries and world regions as well as Institutional Sectors including Universities, Government Agencies, Research Hospitals, Companies and Others.

Fully focused on the research dimension of institutions, the indicators shown on the report are:

  • Output
  • International Collaboration
  • Normalized Impact
  • Publication Rate into "Best Journals"
